Historically, researchers in my lab have just kind of winged it when it came to sourcing hardware for the coils. As part of my research, I work with low-frequency DC-driven Helmholtz coils to isolate samples in an oscillating magnetic field. I am researcher working in a field that has nothing to do with electromagnetic physics/design.
